Lesson Policies

Scheduling  After you've filled out our form and been contacted by our office, we will arrange a time for an instructor to meet with you virtually or come to your home each week. You can also email playoutloudmusiclessons@gmail.com with any questions or scheduling changes.

Lesson Duration and Content   Each lesson is 50 minutes in length.  We believe this is the sweet spot for lesson length; It's long enough to cover subjects thoroughly without feeling rushed, but it's also short enough that the student can be attentive, energized and focused for the entire lesson.  While lesson content will vary depending on the goals and interests of the student, we always incorporate music fundamentals such as ear training, note-reading, scales, and harmony, each of which is crucial to developing well-rounded musicianship.

Lesson Frequency We only offer weekly lessons to students. We believe anything less frequent than this prevents students from having the consistency needed to find confidence and master skills required to excel and it is also too difficult to arrange with our teachers’ schedules.

Payment Monthly invoices will be sent at the end of each month with all lesson dates listed. The cost of each lesson is $80, with payment options listed on each invoice.

For questions regarding invoicing/payments please contact playoutloudmusiclessons@gmail.com

Cancellations & Makeup Lessons  Cancellations can be made by email or phone.  If possible, an alternate meeting time can be worked out with your instructor for that week. If no alternate time can be found, the lesson will be refunded.  Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice are not eligible for refunding or rescheduling.  Should the instructor need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, the student will be informed with at least one week's notice whenever possible.

Required Materials   Students are required to have their own instrument for their lessons.  Voice students are required to have a piano or keyboard at home for their instructor to use during lessons.  Students studying the electric guitar or bass guitar should also have an amplifier, instrument cable, and tuner.  We will happily help you select the right instrument/accessories if you are not sure what you need.  Students should also have a notebook with manuscript paper. It is also highly recommended that students have a methods book, which we would be happy to help select based on age and experience level.
